Counselling

We offer a professional counselling service provided by an experienced and qualified team who follow the National Guidelines for Counselling.

What is Counselling

  • Counselling offers an opportunity for you to talk in confidence about any issues or problems which may concern you.
  • Our counsellors do not advise you but help you to understand your problems.
  • We encourage you to share your thoughts and feelings and help you to find ways of dealing with them.
  • We help you to find a way forward.

Our Confidentiality Policy

Our sessions are confidential and everything discussed remains between yourself and your counsellor.

However, there are some issues that may require the assistance of other professionals, such as GP's or the Social Service.

There may be occasions when we will need to disclose matters, having first discussed them with you.

How Often?
You and your Counsellor will arrange either one session or several if required.

Approach
Short term Counselling

Appropriate steps are determined following assessment and agreement with the young person and where indicated the referring agency.

Referral

Either by self-referral, family or via Statutory Organisations; Health, Education, Social Services and the Voluntary Sector.

Response

Easy Access, immediate response, out of hours answer machine.

Who Needs Counselling?

  • Going to see a Counsellor DOES NOT mean you do not have any friends.
  • Talking things over with a friend may sometimes be enough, but occasionally you may be embarrassed or feel that you don't want to burden someone who is close to you.
  • Even though you may feel that your problem is not important enough to seek counselling - if it is bothering YOU, it IS important.
  • You may have general worries about relationships, you may not be able to concentrate on your work or you may feel depressed or lonely...
  • You may have problems with drugs or alcohol, an eating disorder, bereavement or concerns about your sexuality...
  • You may have experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse...
  • ... Although these are only some examples, problems can vary and affect different people in different ways.
